Léonie Hampton "Mend" - 15th edition Rome Commission / Guy Tillim "O Futuro Certo"

MACRO Via Nizza
Tipología: Fotografía

Leonie Hampton is the protagonist of Rome Commission 2017, now into its fifteenth production, which is going to form a real fund within the collections of the Civic Museums.

"Over the years FotoGrafia Festival has had the great merit of involving many international artists, making them dialogue with our city and its creative potential by investing in new productions, exchanges and excellent partnerships. However, it seemed to us that this considerable momentum has a little bit faded out in recent years for a number of reasons, which led us to make the decision - shared with Marco Delogu - to conclude this experience. The legacy left to the city by the festival is extraordinary – thanks to its “Rome Commission”, that has seen some of the world's greatest photographers exhibit at throughout the years, we are now able to enrich the heritage of our civic collections with a unique series of productions that reveal Rome in the new millennium. As of next year, we will exploit this wealth with a new season of photography promotion involving the city as extensively as possible, also taking into consideration the profound impact that this form of expression and tale has had in the lives of all of us and especially of the 'digital natives' " explains Rome’s Deputy Mayor in charge of cultural development Luca Bergamo.

At the end of the festival's experience, two great exhibitions will be held at MACRO: the new Rome Commission, entitled “Mend”, into its 15th edition, by Léonie Hampton formerly protagonist of FotoGrafia Festival, whose inauguration will be held at MACRO on 7 November 2017, and the first Italian retrospectiveO Futuro Certo” by Guy Tillim, a symbol of the festival and the protagonist of Rome Commission in 2009, and also recently the winner of the prestigious HCB Awards. The exhibitions, curated by Marco Delogu in collaboration with Flavio Scollo, are promoted by the Municipality of Rome, Deputy Mayor in charge of Cultural Development - Superintendence for Cultural Heritage.

Since 2003, internationally famous photographers were commissioned every year by Rome Commission for a "portrait” of the Capital in total freedom of interpretation, reading the city just on the basis of their aesthetics and their own experience. Inaugurated by Josef Koudelka in 2003, it has seen the participation of great photographers such as Olivo Barbieri (2004), Anders Petersen (2005), Tim Davis (2013), Marco Delogu (2014), Paolo Pellegrin (2015) up to the two Rome Commissions featuring the work of Roger Ballen, American naturalized South-African, and the Englishman Simon Roberts in 2016. In addition to the photographers who worked on Rome Commission, the project has involved many other authors including Martin Bogren, David Farrell, Matthew Montheith, Hans-Christian Schink, David Hope, Pieter Hugo, Juan Fabuel, Agnes Geoffray and Miguel Rio Branco among others.
